The Subregional Economic Strategies Project

A Guide to Sources of Information and Assistance

From 2002 to 2004, the Southern California Association of Governments has compiled various resources to assist in economic development in parts of the region. This project catalogues those efforts and is intended to serve as an interim resource for SCAG subregions, local governments, and private entities interested in economic activity in the eastern part of the region.

SCAG's work on economic development to date has focused on Riverside, San Bernardino, and Imperial Counties. Most indicators show that these counties, among the six in the SCAG region, are most in need of growth in economic activity and employment. The Gateway Cities subregion is also part of this project, and future work may cover other parts of the region based on establishing need indicators for specific types of assistance.

The project includes the following products:

  • Summary of Economic Development Activities
-- The summary profiles the various economic development centers, resources, and information guides specific to each geographic area. Most of these resources are web-based and therefore readily accessible to the subregions.

  • Subregion/City Data Sets
-- Collected and collated by SCAG Community Development staff, which outlines economic conditions and trends in each of the subregions and all of their cities. It provides statistical information of a wide range of demographic, economic and transportation variables in a form that is readily accessible, convenient, and timesaving.

  • Subregion at a Glance
-- SCAG Community Development Division staff has prepared one page general information sheet on each of the region's 14 subregions. These enable subregion to subregion comparison on a number of variables including population, employment, income and commuting trends.
