Cheryl Viegas-Walker was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Society and Justice. Cheryl works for Rabobank, N.A. where she is a Senior Vice President and the Director of Vendor Management with oversight responsibility for contracting, purchasing and facilities in California.
Cheryl was elected to the El Centro City Council in 1997 and re-elected in 2001, 2005 and 2009. Cheryl has served four terms as Mayor Pro Tem and three terms as Mayor of El Centro, most recently November 2009 to November 2010.
Cheryl was appointed as the District 1 (Imperial County) representative to the Southern California Association of Governments in June 2010 and has served as a member of the following committees:

In El Centro, Cheryl’s community involvement includes Rotary, the Imperial County Workforce Development Board, the Juvenile Justice Commission, Imperial Valley Food Bank and San Diego State University Dean’s Advisory Board (Imperial Valley Campus).
Cheryl is married to Steve Walker, who was born in Calexico and raised in El Centro. Steve is President of the Central Union High School Board of Trustees. They have two sons. Casey, a UCLA graduate, received his doctorate from Princeton University and is attending the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. Kiel is a graduate of Yale University and Quinnipiac University Law School.
