SCAG Regional Council Approves One-Time Offer to Waive 10% of FY 2009-10 Membership Dues Assessment
Due to the State of California’s economic crisis and its impact on local government agencies, the Regional Council of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) has approved a one-time offer to waive 10% of the FY 2009-10 Membership Dues for its member agencies. The action is consistent with the agency's bylaws, which allow the Regional Council to defer, waive or reduce payment of the annual dues for not more than one year at a time.
"This action shows that SCAG understands that some of our member agencies are struggling due to the State’s budget crisis," said SCAG President and El Centro City Councilman Jon Edney during the Regional Council Meeting on July 2, 2009. "Not all of SCAG’s members need to accept this one-time offer, but for those members whose local budgets are increasingly constrained, this action may help ease some of their burden, without undue hardship for the agency."

Overall Work Program, FY 09-10
Each year, SCAG develops an Overall Work Program (OWP). This work program describes proposed transportation planning activities for the upcoming fiscal year. The OWP also includes those transportation planning activities and studies required by federal and state law and authorized by the Regional Council. These related planning studies address the overall social, economic and environmental effects of transportation decisions in the region.

SCAG Announces Key Budget Actions
The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) has taken key steps to minimize the impact that California’s $24 billion projected deficit and proposed cuts to transportation would have on the agency and the long-range planning it performs for the six-county Southern California region.
"While the goal of California’s legislative leaders is to resolve the State budget deficit by June 15, there is potential that the State’s budget imbalance may go past that deadline, which could impact SCAG’s cash flow if the State withholds federal funds designated for SCAG until there is an approved budget and the State re-establishes its allocations," said SCAG Executive Director, Hasan Ikhrata. "Therefore, our agency has taken a number of steps to minimize any negative impact to our internal operations and required work for the region."
