2008 Regional Transportation Plan (2008 RTP): Making the Connections

On May 8, 2008, the Regional Council of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) adopted the 2008 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP): Making the Connections.  The 2008 RTP is a $531.5 billion Plan (nominal, or year-of-expenditure, dollars) that emphasizes the importance of system management, goods movement, and innovative transportation financing.  It strives to provide a regional investment framework to address the region's transportation and related challenges, and looks to strategies that preserve and enhance the existing transportation system and integrate land use into transportation planning.

The SCAG Region faces great challenges, which cannot be solved solely on a city or county level.  We must look at the bigger picture of Southern California as a region, to look at strategies and new transportation systems that will make this region function the best that it can, and at the end of the day, to make Southern California a place that we are all proud to call our home.
