SCAG LA28 Games July Update

News

As part of its ongoing commitment to regional mobility and coordination, SCAG is working with partners across Southern California to plan for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

World Cup Economic and Community Impact Survey Due Oct. 21

SCAG is conducting a World Cup Economic and Community Impact Assessment to examine the event's economic, tourism, and community impacts across Southern California and capture lessons to help maximize benefits of future mega-events, including the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Your perspective will help us understand what worked well, what challenges emerged, and what lessons from FIFA World Cup 2026 should inform future planning. This brief survey asks about experiences and impacts during and after the World Cup. Responses will be used to identify key themes, successes, and opportunities for improvement.

Findings from the assessment will be featured at SCAG’s Annual Economic Update, held in conjunction with SCAG’s Regional Council meeting in December. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Take the survey online before it closes on Oct. 21.

SCAG TDM Strategic Plan Featured on Torched

SCAG’s transportation demand management (TDM) plan for the LA28 Games was recently featured by Alissa Walker on Torched. TDM reduces congestion by shifting demand to other modes, which will be an important strategy during the LA28 Games.

SCAG is leading TDM work for the region, collaborating with regional partners to implement a comprehensive regional TDM strategy that encourages more sustainable and efficient travel choices during the Games and beyond.

SCAG Regional Council members and staff joined transportation leaders, elected officials, and agency partners at Mobility 21’s Building a Legacy event. SCAG Executive Director Kome Ajise and members of the Games Mobility Executives highlighted the event with a panel discussion on preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The panel explored how the LA28 Games will impact communities, mobility, and commerce throughout the region and how to create a lasting transportation legacy beyond 2028. Panelists discussed ongoing planning efforts and ideas for how agencies, stakeholders, and residents can help shape a mobility system that supports both visitors and Southern Californians for decades to come.

SCAG Continues Regional TDM Convenings

SCAG continues to engage regional partners and stakeholders through the passenger and freight TDM forums, which are touchpoints for sharing LA28 Games planning updates, gathering input, and advancing passenger and freight TDM implementation. At the September Passenger TDM Forum, SCAG and partners shared additional takeaways from the FIFA World Cup 2026 and facilitated a discussion on the Regional TDM Marketing, Communications, and Outreach strategy. At the October Freight TDM Forum, SCAG shared updates on the development of venue assessments and TDM strategy recommendations. SCAG also solicited feedback on upcoming Freight TDM resources for public agencies and freight stakeholders. SCAG will continue to convene regional TDM forums to support coordination and collaboration across the region.
